Windows 8: Consumer Confusion From Computer Profusion

Prepare to be touched by Windows 8.  The first touch optimized desktop operating system will bring the biggest bombardment of new computers, laptops, desktops, tablets, convertibles, and hybrids in the history of the planet.  I kid you not.  Every significant personal computer maker, other than Apple, is gearing up for the release of Microsoft Windows 8 at the end of the month.Brace yourself for a slew of announcements from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, Samsung, and more.  What makes this version of Windows worthy of a hardware revolution?  A combination of factors, beginning with the new tile Interface that will invite you to customize your desktop for quick access to the programs, apps, cloud services, and social media you use most often.  You’ll be able to swipe, squeeze, pinch, and scroll through all of them with the touch of a finger, or ten (though the only apps I’ve seen for ten fingers are finger painting and piano).

    I’m excited to know what other devices will become possible with this version of Windows; but I’m old enough to remember the rule about never adopting a new version of Windows when it launches, but to give it 6 months or more for the first Service Pack to come out.
